Katie Walsh, in her review of Only in Theaters for The Wrap, suggests that the movie is more of a character study of Greg Laemmle, the exhibitor, than a tribute to the movie-watching experience. Walsh believes that the documentary “is not a film about how important theatrical exhibition is for filmmakers. Rather, it’s an intimate portrait of a man burdened by legacy, navigating uncharted waters, not even sure that he wants to.”
